Signs and Symptoms of Hypoglycemia

When blood glucose falls too low relative to the amount of insulin in the blood, hypoglycemia can occur - symptoms and signs include:

    * mental confusion
    * rapid heartbeat
    * sweating
    * double vision

See related story on if you have been a diabetic feeling drunk.

It’s most common with Type 1 since blood glucose is most likely to drop from having too much insulin or too little food.

Hypoglycemia - also called insulin shock or insulin reaction - also occurs in some people with Type 2 when glucose levels fall because of insulin or drug treatments, or made worse by factors such as going too long without eating.  See American diabetic diet

Most symptoms of hypoglycemia can easily be treated by ingesting some sugar, by drinking half a cup of NON-DIET soft drink.  Although this is rare - hypoglycemia can be life threatening.
